Wrinkle Relaxing Injections are more commonly referred to as Botox®, (which is a registered trademark and brand name for the market leader), but is short for botulinum toxin.
When injected, the toxin blocks the nerve signals that make the muscle contract when making facial expressions. Static lines that are caused by repetitive movement start to relax and soften, and also helps to prevent new lines forming.

You usually start to see the effects of your botox treatment in about 5 days, but we’d say wait 14 days for the full results to be visible.

Usually only one, but we do offer complimentary review appointments at 2 weeks, where we can add a little more botox if needed.

Typically results can last between 3-6 months, generally you’ll start to see some muscle movement at around 10-12 weeks post-treatment. However, it can take about 5-6 months for full muscle movement to return. 

Most people tend to have Botox every 3/4 months to maintain the results of their treatment. The more you have it done, the longer the results tend to last.

At SkinHD, we are committed to delivering the best possible results. That’s why we offer two choice for your wrinkle relaxing injections: Brand Botox and Azzalure. While brand Botox is known for its quality and effectiveness, it’s a bit more expensive. However, the majority of our clients find that Azzalure offers a cost-effective alternative without compromising on the quality of results. In fact, many discover that Azzalure provides equally impressive, if not better, outcomes.

Most people can benefit from Botox – it’s suitable for all skin tones and skin types – but a free consultation with one of SkinHD’s medical professionals will ensure your suitability, and is required to be able to prescribe you the product. 

Botox is not recommended if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, and is also contraindicated for anyone that’s experienced facial muscle weakness, ptosis or neuromuscular disease.

Plan at least 2 weeks before a big event to allow for optimal results

Immediately after your appointment, you may have little bumps where Botox has been injected. They will disperse quickly and usually back to normal within 40 minutes.
At SkinHD, we are champions of the natural look, so we don’t put so much product in so that you look ‘frozen’, unless of course, that’s the look you’re going for!
We hope that people will just comment on how refreshed you look, rather than knowing for certain you’ve had any toxin injections.

Avoid lying down for a couple of hours after the treatment
Avoid wearing make up for 2 hours post-procedure, so your skin can form a protective barrier over the injection site and avoid infection
Avoid strenuous exercise and heat for 24 hours – so no saunas, steam rooms or excessively hot showers/baths
Follow any additional instructions provided by your SkinHD practitioner

Botox can be combined with lots of other treatments to give a comprehensive facial rejuvenation approach, such as dermal fillers, chemical peels, skin boosters and microneedling. 

If you want any other treatments same day, such as chemical peels, we’d do the peel first and then the botox immediately afterwards. We’d usually say wait for at least 2 weeks after your botox appointment for the product to settle before booking in for any other treatments.

The most common side effects are slight swelling at the injection site, and potentially some redness or bruising. Swelling appears as little bumps and usually goes down within the hour after treatment, redness and bruising may take a couple of days to resolve.
Some people may experience headaches or a feeling of ‘heaviness’ in the brow – we’d recommend taking paracetamol or ibuprofen as directed on the packet.
Rare complications of Botox can include infection, allergic reaction or ptosis (where the brow droops). Rest assured that all injectors at SkinHD are medical professionals and fully equipped to deal with any side effects should they occur.

If you are concerned about bruising, or you tend to bruise easily, avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol for 24 hours before the treatment. If you are on blood-thinning medication, you do not need to stop taking it before treatment, but please be aware you may be at risk of getting some bruising.
Ideally arrive at your appointment without make-up, but don’t worry if you don’t, as your practitioner will cleanse the area fully before the treatment.
