Polynucleotides are a breakthrough in regenerative aesthetic medicine that uses filtered DNA fractions with remarkable regenerative properties.

Polynucleotides use biological molecules, called nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA. When injected into targeted areas, they send signals to your body to naturally boost cellular repair and regeneration, improving skin hydration, and thanks to their anti-oxidative properties, counteract damage in the skin due to environmental stressors, such as sun damage and stress.

This collagen boosting treatment is typically used to address the first signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, improves the appearance of pigmentation and can hydrate the skin from within, helping to maintain a youthful glow.

What concerns does it address?
  • Cellular regeneration – promotes the growth of new healthy skin cells
  • Boosts collagen production for improved skin elasticity and firmness
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces appearance of dark circles and improves the upper and lower eye bags
  • Hydration and moisture retention
  • Improves skin texture
  • Reduces hyperpigmentation
  • Minimises appearance of scarring
  • Anti-inflammatory properties – calms and soothes irritates skin, reducing redness and inflammation

Frequently Asked Questions

Polynucleotides contain filtered DNA fragments that act as catalysts for skin rejuvenation. When injected, they stimulate the fibroblasts that are essential for the production of collagen and elastin – the proteins that are essential for keeping skin firm and supple.

Secondly, polynucleotides are an amazing antioxidant that help to repair and restore damage on a cellular level within the skin. This process helps to improve skin hydration, reduce the appearance of pigmentation and improve skin texture.

The DNA used in polynucleotide treatments originates from salmon, offering a natural source with remarkable similarity to human DNA fractions. The clinical filtration and ultra-purification process ensures the absence of any remaining ‘matter’, making it safe even for those with fish allergies. We should also note that the salmon are not killed to obtain their DNA, but are a by-product of the food industry.

Unlike hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers, that add volume, definition and structure exactly where they are placed, polynucleotides work to improve the skin at a cellular level, rejuvenating the skin from within and improving overall skin quality. Polynucleotides don’t contain any hyaluronic acid, instead they contain biopolymers, which are molecules derived from fish DNA, that stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.

Despite their differences, the two treatments work very well together, providing both an instant lift (HA dermal fillers) and long-term skin boosting results (polynucleotides).

The number of treatments needed varies on individual factors such as skin condition, desired outcomes, and personal goals. Typically, a treatment plan consists of 3 treatments each a few weeks apart to get the best results. Maintenance sessions are recommended every 6-9 months to sustain the results.

Some clients notice an improvement quite soon after their first treatment, but typically results start becoming apparent 4-6 weeks following the treatment course, and continue to improve over time due to the stimulated production of collagen and elastin.

The duration of results varies among individuals due to lifestyle and skin condition. Generally, results after a course of treatments tend to last 6-12 months, longer with regular maintenance sessions.

Polynucleotide treatments are generally well-tolerated, but individual suitability may vary. This treatment is suitable for those seeking overall skin rejuvenation and addressing the more established signs of ageing, without wanting to increase volume in any specific areas. A free consultation with one of SkinHD’s medical professionals is required to assess individual eligibility.

Polynucleotides are not recommended during pregnancy and/or breastfeeding.

While polynucleotide treatments typically involve minimal downtime, it’s advisable to schedule your course of treatments a couple of months before your big event, to ensure optimal results.

Polynucleotide treatments are designed to provide natural and subtle enhancements without leaving any obvious signs that you’ve had anything done. Immediately after the procedure, you may experience mild and temporary side effects such as redness or swelling at the injection site. However, these effects tend to subside within 24-48 hours of your treatment.

Immediately after your treatment, avoid touching your face or applying make up for at least 12 hours. Avoid excessive heat and exercise for at least 24 hours post treatment. Avoid waxing, chemical peels, skin needling and laser treatments for at least 2 weeks post treatment.

Avoiding NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, imega 3, St John’s Wort and alcohol for 24 hours before your treatment and 24 hours afterwards can help reduce the risk of bruising. You can apply a cool compress to the treatment area (not direct ice) for 10 minutes every hour on the day of treatment can help to reduce swelling. Follow any other advice given by your SkinHD practitioner.

Yes, polynucleotide treatments can be combined with other aesthetic procedure to create a comprehensive and tailored skincare approach. The most common treatments polynucleotides are paired with are botox and/or chemical peels. We’d just recommend that you wait at least 2 weeks after your procedure to get any other treatments.

While polynucleotide treatments are generally well tolerated, as with any other cosmetic procedure, there is a possibility of side effects. Common side effects may include temporary pain or stinging at the injection site, localised swelling and/or bruising. These effects tend to resolve with 24-48 hours of your treatment. More serious side effects are rare, but can include an allergic reaction, persistent pain or tingling, or occlusion. Rest assured that all injectors at SkinHD are medically trained, so well equipped to swiftly deal with any complications should they occur.

  • Avoid NSAIDs, fish oils and alcohol before your appointment to reduce chances of bruising.
  • Ideally arrive at your appointment without make-up, but don’t worry too much if you don’t as your practitioner will thoroughly cleanse the skin before carrying out the treatment.
  • Numbing cream will be provided to apply 15 minutes before your treatment
