Cheeks Fillers are a type of dermal filler that is used to add volume to the mid face area. They typically use a specially formulated type of hyaluronic acid to give an instant plumping effect that lasts 9-18 months, depending on the type of product used. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, that when used as a dermal filler, is low-risk and accepted by the body well. Once the product starts to break down, your body reabsorbs the hyaluronic acid is naturally removed as a waste product.
Other Cheek Filler products, such as HArmonyCA also contain other ingredients to help stimulate your own natural collagen production and enhance skin elasticity to give a longer lasting lift. Your SkinHD practitioner can recommend the best option based on your unique needs.

You’ll see an immediate improvement to the volume in the mid face area, with optimal results being visible within a couple of weeks as any initial swelling subsides.

Usually a single session is sufficient, however, if you’re looking for a more pronounced look, we may suggest having a small amount of a couple of treatment sessions. We can also arrange a follow up review appointment after any swelling has subsided to assess your final results.

Depending on the product used and lifestyle, results can last between 6-18 months. Regular maintenance sessions can extend the duration.

Most people are suitable for cheek enhancements if you want to add re-volumise your mid face area or accentuate your natural features. However, we insist on a free consultation with our medical practitioners to ensure suitability. Cheek Fillers are not recommended if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.

To allow for optimal results and any potential swelling and/or bruising to subside, plan cheek fillers appointments at least 2 weeks before a significant event.

SkinHD emphasises a natural look. While there may be minor swelling and/or bruising initially, our approach ensures results that enhance without appearing obvious.

Avoid putting any firm pressure on your cheeks immediately after the treatment. 

Avoid wearing make up for 2 hours post-procedure, so your skin can form a protective barrier over the injection site and avoid infection

Avoid strenuous exercise and heat for 24 hours – so no saunas, steam rooms or excessively hot showers/baths

Cheek Fillers can be combines with various treatments, such as botox, chemical peels and lip fillers for a comprehensive facial rejuvenation approach. Your SkinHD professional can advise on suitable combinations. 

We’d usually recommend waiting a couple of weeks after your cheek filler appointment to get any other facial treatments, to ensure any swelling has subsided.

The most common side effects are slight to moderate swelling and potentially bruising, that may last up to 2 weeks. 

More severe complications are rare, but include: prolonged swelling or bleeding, asymmetry, ulceration, infection, migration of product, allergic reaction, granuloma (which is a hard lump that doesn’t go away after all swelling has resolved). The most serious side effect of cheek fillers is vascular occlusion, which can block blood flow and can cause tissue necrosis. 

It’s important to note all injectors at SkinHD are not only skilled but qualified medical professionals. This means they possess the expertise to handle any side effects quickly and effectively. Whilst severe complications are rare, rest assured that our team is fully equipped to address and manage any issues that might arise with precision and care. In the event of undesired outcomes from cheek fillers, the use of an injectable product called hyaluronidase can effectively reverse the procedure. 

If you are concerned about bruising, or you tend to bruise easily, avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol for 24 hours before the treatment. If you are on blood-thinning medication, you do not need to stop taking it before treatment, but please be aware you may be at risk of getting some bruising.
Ideally arrive at your appointment without make-up, but don’t worry if you don’t, as your practitioner will cleanse the area fully before the treatment.
We will provide numbing cream for you to apply to your cheek area before your appointment. The cheek filler product also contains lidocaine to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment process. We can also provide you with an ice pack before and after the treatment to help reduce swelling.
